Fun Art Night &  Fun’dudle Art Camp

In this intensive, yet very fun camp, participants will learn and perfect the concepts of intentional doodling to create high quality, beautiful works of art! This camp is on it’s 7th year. So, we will be adding some additional art projects and mediums this year! We will focus the morning on Doodling. The afternoon on painting another beautiful artworks! The end of the week, our participants will have created several very high quality artworks and have their choice of a bigger project to be the star in our Art Show!

Your child will create multiple quality art pieces that you will be very proud to show off or even give as gifts!

All Day (9-4) – This is the only session who will create a 3-D art project – $200
Half Day AM (9-12) – $100

This camp is intended for kids with an interest in art. This is not a childcare program.

*Art supplies will be provided by parents. The supply list will be sent out 1 month in advance. Supplies could include (but not limited to) Drawing pad, marker set, shirt, etc.*

Kids Night is a perfect opportunity to fulfill their need to create while you get some needed things done! Kids Night is for school aged kids of ALL ages! JMU’s Outreach & Engagement

Arboretum Explorer Camp: This camp is designed to encourage a love of the outdoors, foster environmental stewardship, and inspire future scientists. Campers will learn about the life cycles of trees, get up close and personal with various bugs and animals, release butterflies, participate in scavenger hunts, take guided nature walks, and more.

Science Explorers Camp: Using JMU’s unique facilities such as the John C. Wells Planetarium and Science on a Sphere, camp-goers will get to explore different areas of science including biology, earth science, chemistry, forensic science, physics, astronomy, and more!

Summer Honors Institute: This program allows rising high school juniors/seniors to get a first-hand look at college life as an honors student! Students will live in dorms, sample classes, and engage with professors and current JMU students. Afternoons and evenings will be spent taking field trips and exploring the Shenandoah Valley.

College for Kids: College for Kids is an enrichment program that allows children to work with JMU faculty, students, and experts from the community to try new things and discover talents they never knew they had! Course offerings include LEGO Engineering, Olympic Fencing, Taste of Culture, Python Programming, Dance, Drama, and more!

Red Wing Roots Music Festival – the music festival has camping and kids activities

Summer Stings Camp

Red Wing Academy is open to non-beginner violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, mandolin and banjo students. Students will receive individual and group instruction from highly trained music teachers and will also be coached by members of The Steel Wheels throughout the week. Daily curriculum will include group classes, mini lessons, improv and jam sessions, technique and tone development, stage performance, electives, recreation, panel discussions, and more. Each day will close with a camp wide rehearsal to practice for Red Wing performance.

Redmont Farm LLC is owned and operated by Jessica Welch. Located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, just forty five minutes north of the Virginia Horse Center. Redmont Farm offers training for the horse and pony from weaning to showing, as well as riding lessons from beginners to riders competing in the hunter ring.

Our training program focuses on giving horses a solid foundation and allowing them to achieve their potential. Redmont Farm also offers a select group of horses and ponies for sale that have been in the training program.

The lesson program is geared to teaching students the correct hunter seat position and aides to achieve the best out of their horse.  Lessons are available on your own horse or one of the horses or ponies owned by Redmont Farm.

Summer Camp 2018

We also offer an exciting summer camp for ages 6 and older.   Camp includes daily lessons along with caring for your own horse or pony for the week.  In addition, we play lots of fun horse games, make crafts, and even picnic in the field with the horses.  Click on the links below for more information and registration.

When kids experience Y camp, they experience something new every day like the power of a positive mentor, the confidence that comes from trying (and succeeding) and the importance of healthy, long-lasting friendships. From water activities and sports to creative arts, each day is packed with age-appropriate activities, new friends and personal growth. In addition to traditional and specialty camp activities, we are uniquely devoted to physical activity, water safety and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) education. Few environments will foster your child’s mind, body and spirit more than the YMCA. We have a 1-to-10 counselor to-camper ratio for camp, and a 1-to-8 ratio for Pre-K Camp.

Camp Staunton 2019: Summer Surprise Full day summer camp, Mon-Fri, 7:30am-6pm

We take great care in the hiring process by only interviewing qualified and mature staff. The majority of our employees have been with Staunton Parks and Recreation for well over 10 years. Our Park Setting makes us unique from some of our counterparts who use institutional settings. We have acres of green space, state-of-the-art playgrounds, woods to hike, outdoor sport courts and fishing lakes. We value creativity and have researched the many ways play in the outdoors enhances creativity in children. The Enrichment and activities we provide are exceptional. Choices and Interests: Your child will choose from many activities like pickle ball, creative writing, archery, hiking, disc golf and cooking. We take Field Trips to various fun and exciting places, such as Boxerwood Gardens and Museums. Does your child need Exercise? Whether it is organized or unorganized play, there is no way around it. We play numerous recreational activities each day including swimming. Age Matters! It’s all about the age and appropriate activities for each age group which includes field trips. We separate our three camps according to age. We will continue our partnership with the Staunton City Schools Nutrition Program this summer. Lunches will be provided by Staunton City Schools-free of charge-for all campers. Staunton Parks and Recreation summer camp program has been in operation for over 30 years.
